About

It’s all pretty much in the title and tagline really.  This site will, with time, be populated with the occasional and random thoughts of a middle-aged, mid-career STEMM-based academic who finds himself in the relatively fortunate position of holding a personal chair at a Russell Group university in the UK.

The site was originally set up to host my rather bizarre form of out of office messages which colleagues found either quirky or occasionally humorous.  Some of them are still to be found by following this link or clicking on the “Out of Office” button above.  These days, I use the site to comment occasionally on issues in the HE sector or to pass on information that may be of interest.  You can get to these posts by following this link or by clicking the “Posts” button above.  My biggest career failing (and let’s face it, there are many) has been an inability to take either myself or my situation too seriously.  As a result, most comments should be read in that context.
